Overview
I originally designed Nu-Wool’s website in 2014. Technology and design had evolved a lot since then and it was time for a website redesign.
There were a few issues that we identified in the Brand Discovery Workshop with the old website by using tracking software to record 100 visitor sessions. The old website was segmented into 3 sections based on the target audience: Homeowners, Builders & Contractors, and Architects & Building Officials. We saw several sessions where people went back and forth between the different sections. We realized that they were not finding the information they were looking for with the segmented homepage.
One of the Nu-Wool departments also expressed a need to have a way to see how many people were using the Energy Savings Calculator. I also suggested having a way to capture contact information through the Calculator as well.

Website Design
Instead of organizing the website by target audience, the website now prioritizes Nu-Wool’s products. The product section was one of the most clicked on in the old website, but visitors commonly went back and forth between pages trying to find the information they needed.
There are still pages dedicated to the different target audiences, but they are nested under the Solutions section which also includes pages that detail insulation solutions for various building structures and their inherently unique needs.
There are also more ways for a visitor to contact Nu-Wool. In the past, the calculator would only give users the amount of money they would save with Nu-Wool products. Now, they can enter their contact information after the calculation and we can track how effective the calculator is.
The Product Locator also looks much more modern with contact buttons to contact Nu-Wool installers & retailers.
